#StrongerTogether: the EU’s Civil Protection response to Coronavirus

For EU citizens who found themselves stranded abroad when their flights were suspended and borders started to close, the EU provided support to help them reunite with their families.

Since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, through its Civil Protection Mechanism and in coordination with Member States, the EU has helped Member States in flying back more than 82,000 EU citizens from Asia, Africa and Latin America to ensure that EU citizens who want to come back home can do so.

As of the beginning of September 2020, the EU’s Civil Protection Mechanism facilitated close to 370 repatriation flights financed at 75 % of the transport costs.
