Providing access to healthcare in the Gaza strip
Through a €2.15 million project funded primarily by the European Union, UNICEF has constructed a water well and installed solar panels to operate desalination plants at two clinics in the Gaza strip. The use of solar energy allows for a reliable source of power despite daily electricity outages throughout the Gaza Strip. It also provides contingency power in the event of airstrikes and escalations of conflict. When violence erupts, the clinics provide care for conflict-related trauma and injuries. Otherwise, the injured would have to be referred to hospitals.
