On 11th August, Sylvie Waridi, a psycho-social worker partnered with UNICEF, departs the Ebola Treatment Unit in Beni, North Kivu, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) after another day counseling children affected by Ebola.Sylvie is one of 150 psyc

Sylvie Waridi, a psychosocial worker that works with children at the Ebola treatment centre in Beni, North Kivu, DRC, leaves the centre for another day of counselling.

In addition to her work at the centre, she also works with the children’s community. The risk of stigmatisation for children discharged from the Ebola centre is high and the return home is not always easy.

Sylvie regularly visits the neighbourhood to ensure that children released from the Ebola centre are reintegrated. “You have to explain to the neighbours what the illness is, the reason why the children were admitted to the centre and why they have now been returned to their family,” says Sylvie.
