Afghan refugees: The path home

Then comes a very symbolic moment: Neelab needs to officially hand in her 'Proof of Registration card' (the identity card provided by the government of Pakistan for Afghan refugees), thereby renouncing her rights as a refugee, and the aid she is entitled to with this status.

 

“My choice is made”, she smiles, as the lady behind the counter cuts her card with scissors.
