Jane’s Walk III
This walk was dubbed “Wild Scaborough”:
Growing up next door to Rouge Park and Toronto Zoo you heard lots of stories about escaped animals - wild beasts that roared and howled and roamed the ravine. We were afraid to go down into the ravine. But that's exactly where we're headed on this walk to take a closer look at what's down there. There will be some surprises but we'll definitely see some crumbling informal structures, the abandoned zoo monorail and maybe, if we're lucky, a close up on a few bison or Malvern's own family of albino racoons. Join us on a tour of the neighbourhood where myth and mystery mingle with neighbourhood geography, farming roots and exciting community projects.
About your walk leader:
Alex Dow has been a resident in Malvern since 1989, growing up in the Morningside/Finch area of north-east Scarborough. He has been a local community activist and advocate through his role managing United Way's Action for Neighbourhood Change project in the community for the last 4 years. Join him and other residents as we share our stories and a bit of local history on everything from the neighbourhood's pastoral past and it's future. The walk will be joined by monorail history buff and Scarborough resident Richard White.
