Braided streams

As we flew over Inner Mongolia and Xinjiang we saw China’s magnificent deserts spread out beneath us. What amazed me were the settlements in the middle of nowhere: small enclosures at the end of a road, with dried-up fields nearby.

I was fascinated by these braided streams, formed by water run-off from the mountains in the distance.

Aperture adjustments: levels, white balance, edge sharpening.

Location: on the flight from Beijing (Běijīng Shì (北京市) to Ürümqi (ئۈرۈمچی, Wūlǔmùqí, 乌鲁木齐), Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (شىنجاڭ ئۇيغۇر ئاپتونوم رايونى, Xīnjiāng Wéiwú’ěr Zìzhìqū, 新疆维吾尔自治区), People’s Republic of China (Zhōnghuá Rénmín Gònghéguó, 中华人民共和国). Geotagged position is approximate, interpolated along an assumed flight path.
