Potato boy in love

If you have not found out yet, I usually display the same descriptions on both deviantart and flickr :D

This has been quite an experimental night for me. I really wanted to go out of the box and try new things, have no fear. In the end, I am honestly surprised at the result. I knew I was going to do a piece based on love, because I have been listening to love songs all night. Wow, lame! Anyways, I wanted to change up my palette with some surprisingly refreshing browns, and I wanted to start coloring out of the lines and use new techniques on Paint. Believe it or not, this was my first time incorporating both the paint tool and the airbrush tool, both which I love. I love the softness that the airbrush tool brings, it added a delicate touch.

About the piece itself...

I started this piece with an oval, and decided to make it a head. I did not correct myself because I wanted to see what would happen if I left it larger than I wanted to. I didn't want to correct my mistakes, I wanted to form what I viewed as a mistake into a characteristic of the finalized piece. I made it sloppy because I have grown accustomed to making pieces with a tighter look. I have been afraid to reach beyond the lines with my colors. I wanted to be free.

Why I chose a fat boy to represent love...well love does not necessarily have to be represented by a couple making out on a beach by a sunset. I thought it would be nice to take a separate unexpected approach to love...the forlorn and innocent child, teased and bullied, makes a valentine for his best friend, who he is too afraid to tell he has a crush on. But his story can really be any story, I like to leave it open in this case. I don't like restricting love to cliches, there are so many beautiful possibilities.

I think there is beauty in what others may find repulsive, I wish to explore that as an artist and display these beauties from the depths of my heart =]

I think I love art so much because it has the ability to beautify anything, and there will never be an end to its possibilities.
