Twin Tunnels 1 Norfolk Southern
Milepost 121, Norfolk Southern railroad's, Old Fort Loops. Looking through one short tunnel to another.
dwhopkins fine perspective of the tunnels (www.flickr.com/photos/16170588@N07/3336233279/in/pool-889...) prompted me to revisit Point Lookout and venture to the tunnels. As luck would have it, I faintly heard a train working its way up the hill.
There are actually three tunnels here. The near tunnel is the middle of seven. Number 3 is visible beyond and number 5 is about fifty yard behind the camera. The 7th tunnel is the 2000 foot Suwannanoa Gap tunnel with the crest of the Blue Ridge just beyond. This train was a lengthy string of empty grain cars.
