The Oseberg ship - the stem

The Oseberg-ship was built early in the ninth century. It is richly decorated and probably served as luxury yacht in coastal waters until it was used as a burial ship in AD 834 according to dendrochronological examinations of logs used in the construction of the grave-chamber. Two women were buried along with utensils and great riches. It was excavated in 1904 and are exhibited in restored condition.
