Courses training people to find work in the retail sector has been so successful they are being rolled out across Cornwall and into Devon.
The ‘Smart Savings Retail’ courses, which originally received ESF (European Social Fund) Convergence via Cornwall Works 50+, led to more than half the participants finding employment and going into voluntary work. That high success rate means that 20 more are now being mainstreamed through Jobcentre Plus with investment from the District Manager’s Flexible Support Fund, with the aim of supporting 200 people. The first two courses are due to begin in December.
The work focussed courses are the brainchild of Jane Jiwa, project director of Smart Savings a business which she set up with support from Cornwall School for Social Entrepreneurs, another ESF Convergence project.
