Notts & Derby 10
Operating on weekdays between late March and late October, the X52 is the only remaining service on the once-extensive Alton Towers ‘excursion’ network. Indeed, the only other bus service to call at the theme park is the First 32A which additionally functions as a local bus service for the surrounding area. By contrast, the X52 is a straightforward link between Nottingham, Derby, Ashbourne, and the park, with a return journey operating in the evening. This decline began several years ago, long before the negative publicity generated by safety concerns last year began to dominate popular perceptions of the park.
Caught in the hamlet of Farley as it nears journey's end, former Metrobus Omnidekka YN56FDZ (10) is seen operating the 09:15 from Nottingham this morning. This is one of ten Omnidekkas which have recently been purchased from Metrobus via Ensign as Olympian replacements. Four are with Notts & Derby and six with TM Travel. The use of such a vehicle must make for an interesting exercise in tree-bashing beyond Calton Moor!
