Interesting times in Houston, TX. A little over a year had passed since Southern Pacific was merged with Union Pacific, yet widespread service issues remained. During this time of transition, the railroad was chronically short of power and crews. Amtrak F40PHs were leased and pressed into freight service. Here a pair of GP38-2s, one SP and one UP, bracket F40PH 415 on a train passing through Houston's North Shore Jct. Amtrak 415 would later become an expat, moving on to the Panama Canal Railway.
