Central Bank Building, Dunbar, PA
Dunbar, Pennsylvania, known as "the furnace town," though tiny, is filled with many remarkable buildings from the turn of the last century when coal and coke in the area were booming.
In the spring of 1901, the site of the Central Bank was a strawberry patch. By December, the bank had been built by C B Nemon and was open for business. He was the sole owner and A M Nemon was the cashier. According to older citizens of Dunbar, this was a fine, reputable establishment which weathered both the stock market crash of 1929, and the Great Depression. Apparently, Mr. Nemon's age was the single factor which caused the bank to close around 1938.
The Centennial booklet that the town published in 1983 lists it at the time as the Municipal Building.
At the intersection of Railroad and Connellsville Streets.
