The magical East Wickham Open Space, Welling, Bexley, Christine Phillips

East Wickham Open Space, also known as Fanny on the Hill, is a public recreational area in Welling, London. It was once farmland and later a landfill but is now a well-loved park with walking paths, exercise stations, and a playground. The name "Fanny on the Hill" comes from a pub that used to stand there, and legend has it that Fanny, the landlady, signaled highwaymen waiting for coaches traveling over Shooters Hill2.

Shooters Hill is a historic area in southeast London, known for its high elevation and panoramic views. It has a rich history, including associations with highwaymen like Dick Turpin, who was notorious for his crimes in the 18th century.
