When confronted with the age of the Bristlecones, it's hard not to think of stories and myths and religion. One of the oldest bristlecones known to man was named after Prometheus and the light and fire that was stolen for humanity. Fire and trees inevitably makes me think of Moses and the burning bush. While these trees are thankfully not burned, they are burning with the burden of time. They have existed for periods of time longer than some of the religious stories l'm referencing here. Seeing that and realizing that is a religious experience in itself, no matter what you believe in.
