Ricinulei - Arachnida - Cryptocellus narino

www.entomopixel.com

Ibagué, Tolima, Colombia

The Ricinuleids are one of the less diverse groups of arachnoids, it has a little more than 70 described species grouped in a single family (Ricinoididae). Very little is known in the world about the Biology and Ecology of these organisms. They are of the few arachnids (along with the mites) that in their larval stage have 6 legs. In addition they are the only group within the class that have their mouthparts (chelicers) covered by an extructure called cuculus (it can be noticed in ventral position).

In the case of this image, a female Cryptocellus narino is observed in dorsal position.

The picture is a focus stack with 29 photos.
