Monument Valley was a little-known, rarely visited destination until the 1930s. The only people who truly appreciated the beauty of this place were the Navajo Indians who lived on the land. Monument Valley gained popularity after John Ford featured it in several of his well-known films, including Stagecoach and Rio Grande.

This Navajo Tribal Park, known by the Navajo as Tse'Bii'Ndzisgaii, which roughly translates into 'the valley of the rocks', is said to be one of the most photographed places on the planet. The valley is home to towering sandstone rock formations that have been carved over time and rise 400 to 1,000 feet above the valley floor.
