Dauphin, Manitoba, 18SEP'89

Here's a roster shot of a "lightweight Geep" so people can see one up close in its habitat. Dauphin is the first division point west of Winnipeg on the "Prairie North" (ex-Canadian Northern) mainline between Portage la Prairie (about 50 miles west of Winnipeg) and Edmonton. So with all the light-duty prairie branches that fed into the former "CNoR", this territory was thick with lightweight Geeps and, of course, the GMD1's. I'm also not big on roster shots, so of course I messed this one up: I'm pointing the camera at the rear of the unit, as CNR ran them long hood forward. Evidently the CNR figured it wasn't worth it to put the Noodle on the real front of the unit - I'm ready to hear of exceptions, of course! - or extend the red paint back towards the cab. I'd still love to see, and HEAR, about three or four of these things in olive green and yellow as they drag a "grain box" over the prairies, through Winnipeg, and down the line into the North Woods ending at the grain'vators of Port Arthur (now part of Thunder Bay.) I'd better stop there as the dreams are starting and I've got some things to do....
