Chicago: 21 MAY '67

Monon C420 (501) heads the inbound "Thoroughbred", from Louisville, under Roosevelt Road and into Dearborn Street Station. I think I'd be aiming the camera down at someone's garage if I did this now! Dearborn Station - also known as "Polk St." as it stood at the corner of Dearborn and Polk - hosted several railroads that used its owner Chicago & Western Indiana to get their passenger trains in and out of downtown. The headhouse still stands but the trainshed area was long ago replaced by townhomes, and the garages for them stretched southward under the bridge on which this 14-year-old was standing. Who knows but that is all changed again by now. The Pennsy boxcars are lined up at one of the many freighthouses that lined the leads; I think this was the C&WI or the C&EI and I know the Erie had theirs across the tracks. Corrections are welcome! I just know it's all gone now.
