songs of love
For Macro Mondays 'wabi-sabi'
Wabi-sabi is a Japanese word roughly translating as 'imperfect aged beauty'. It is used to describe a particular philosophy that beauty can be found in the old, the everyday, the imperfect, broken and decaying subjects.
This is my mum's hymn book which measures just three inches on its longest side. My great aunt gave it to her as a young girl and it gives me so much pleasure to caress these worn edges, knowing that she too handled them so long ago. It comes with a matching prayer book and a battered sleeve which has saved the two books from worse wear I'm sure.
