watching and waiting

This piece of wood is probably one of the most famous in West Sussex, with many nature lovers watching it avidly for a sighting of one of the beautiful kingfishers that appear regularly at Warnham Nature Reserve.

This is the first time I've sat in a hide, encouraged to hang on by some lovely people who make a habit of visiting, from much further afield than me. The benches were hard, but the company friendly and after three hours their faith was proved right by a flash of blue and a sharp intake of breath all round.

My long lens might not be the longest or the sharpest, but I am thrilled with my first kingfisher shot - what a privilege!
