Jessica Fox - Indonesia 2014
Fellow Jessica Fox made guest visits to sports education swimming classes to offer motivation and technical assistance with beginner swimmers. These presentations and daily training sessions fulfill various aspects of the United States mission to Indonesia: to open minds to new possibilities, to challenge extreme perceptions and assumptions, and to encourage continued educational exchanges and positive face-to-face encounters, among other goals.
Fox also was part of a first-ever focus reading group for eight recent English department graduates and current advanced students. The topics of the graduate level readings approached the highly debated and relevant topics of culture, language, and identity.
Fox, along with her two other colleagues Fabio Coelho and Jennifer Zirbes, participated in a World Environment Day event on June 5 created and hosted by the 30 Environmental English students of UNPATTI English department students. Students and faculty were welcomed into a poster exhibition highlighting the five groups’ environmentally focused community service initiatives over the past semester. Each group was responsible for seeking out a community or location to engage in service-learning activities—learning to serve, serving to learn.
