Activate! In Minsk

On November 5, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasia Bridget Brink and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor Robert Berschinski greeted 35 in-service teachers from all over Belarus, who arrived to PAS Minsk for the workshop on “Activate – Games for Learning American English”. DAS Brink marked the importance of learning foreign languages, and thanked teachers for being devoted to the profession. After the brief meeting with a U.S. State Department delegation English Language Fellow Clark Erwin-Billones led the workshop and taught the participants from different government and private educational institutions how they can use this set of board games in their classroom. Teachers reflected on how they could expand the variety of activities with “Activate”. The workshop was combined with a visit to the Information Resource Center where teachers learned about other printed and online resources provided by the Department of State. The program participants received a set of “Activate”, the latest issues of the English teaching magazine Forum, and other PAS promotional materials. The program was complemented by many participants, who enjoyed the lively and informative atmosphere and informal communication.
