Fellow and Specialist
Andrew Shannon - Kolkhoz Kalinin, Osh Oblast, Kyrgyzstan
Local English Language Fellow Andrew Shannon traveled to Parpiev School in the suburban village of Kolhoz Kalinin to present on US government programs available to local secondary English teachers. Participating teachers came from schools in Osh Oblast to attend the presentation. Teachers learned about the opportunity of participating in the TEA and FLTA exchange programs. Parpiev school students also presented their dances to songs from American English's Children's Songs collection. Both teachers and Students were given an opportunity to ask questions about US government educational programs and American school culture. This program was part of Parpiev School's celebration of national I Love English Week. Positive feedback from teachers was strong; most of them were not familiar with the possibility of ongoing professional development through a US exchange program.
