Jason W. Dean says: One of the most beautiful things, I think about the square image is when the subject is perfectly centered in the frame. This is a great example of this - as well as a wonderful use of contrast.

Jason W. Dean says: I love the centered leading lines in this, framed by the men. I also love this for the Caracci it reminds me of: www.kimbellart.org/Collections/Collections-Detail.aspx?pr...

Jason W. Dean says: Of course, not all great square images have the subject perfectly centered in the frame. Off-center subjects can be just as (if not more) effective. This is a great example of a highly effective off-center image, due largely to the impact of the text, as well as the contrast and depth of field.

Jason W. Dean says: The subject in this image is slightly off-center, adding visual interest to an excellent image. The vignetting and soft focus at the corners adds strength to this image.

Jason W. Dean says: Not only does this image have wonderful depth of field and exposure, it also features another wonderful design element - pattern. The simple pattern of circles in the square helps make this very effective.

Jason W. Dean says: The irregular pattern in this image almost makes the image "dance." Also, the juxtaposition of the rounded and angular shapes in the square frame add interest and intrigue to the image.

Jason W. Dean says: There are many elements at play in this image that are balanced well to make an effective image. First, the color is wonderful, but not distracting. Second, the consistent horizontal lines across the frame add pattern, which is broken up by the circular window in the top right corner. Finally, the shape of the boat and the bird help to lea your eye around the square frame.

Jason W. Dean says: This image is all about color, line, and shape. I love the muted color palette, as well as the pattern in the building, and the juxtaposed rectangular forms, as well as the organic forms of the bushes all against the square frame.
