Shop. Probably C17, with early C20 alterations and possible earlier remains.
Stone rubble, stone slate, and render, with stone slate roof. Two storeys.
Facade has two one-bay gabled cross-wings. Each has a C20 bowed window on
the ground floor. The right-hand wing is of exposed rubble and has a 3-light
mullioned window with hood on the first floor, renewed in the C20. The left-
hand wing has its upper storey and gable hung with stone slates and has a C20
casement window. The centre is rendered and has a 2-light mullioned window
under a gable on the first floor. To each side there is a small round window
with stone surround on each floor. The doorway, in the centre, has a painted
wide chamfered surround and hood. Chimneys to right, and behind ridge to left
of right-hand wing. Interior: not fully accessible at time of survey (January
1987). Left-hand wing has timber-framed partition wall. At right of rear room
of centre part of building is a stone inglenook with bressummer. Until 1849
the building served as a vicarage. A surveyor's report of 1849 suggests that
the building was partly timber-framed. (Houghton, CC: A Walk About Broadway,
1980).
