Calm Before the Storm
In the air, a heaviness
yet not so heavy
as the weight of emptiness
In the clouds, a foreboding
though not so ominous
as the hollow unknowing
In the water, only reflections
the deeper she seeks
the darker the deceptions
A breath drawn in, disclosing defeat
a slower breath out
a sigh in relief
A stillness now, a silent trade
loneliness for lonesomeness
the acceptance made
And thunder distant, a parallel song
a temporary balance
and a wish to prolong
For here within, steady it grows
a quiet so fierce
in the fervor she knows
Her heart, hear now: the beat ever slowing
the calm before the storm
a break in overflowing
Self portrait taken last week in a tidal pool, just before the heavens unleashed rain and lightning.
