Denali as viewed from Reflection Pond
Denali, at 20,310 feet is North Americas highest peak. Seeing Denali is a challenge, less than a third of the people visiting Denali park get a glimpse of the mountain through the frequent clouds. For my visit I had three consecutive days of great photography which is exceptional luck. This image was captured at Reflection Pond in a remote region of the park near Kantishna the site of the gold rush more than 100 years ago. Now Kantishna is largely cut off due to a landslide that destroyed the road limiting access that is now primarily through helicopter. It is likely going to be a at least a few years before the road can be restored making access to this remote place limited. This is the spot that draws photographers so when luck allows images of the mountain can be captured.
