Weathered

One of the oldest remaining public cable car lines in Chiatura, the small town along river kvirila in west Georgia. The cable car system was established in the 1930s, to serve the mining business in the area, and the first public ropeway was launched in 1953. The town, and its infrastructure fell into disarray after the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991. The cable cars continued working, in a harrowing state, until mid-2019, before being permanently shut down, in waiting of a new station and new lines. The impact on the daily lives of the locals, who now have to negotiate the difficult terrain on foot or on unreliable bus services, must be big..
