The Crypt of Lecce’s cathedral is dedicated to "Santa Maria della Scala" and according to scarce documents the "Crypt or Confession" already existed about a century before the reconstruction of the Cathedral in 1659.
According to local tradition the crypt contains the relics of the patrons of Lecce, saints Oronzo, Giusto and Fortunato, however, despite several explorations, such relics they have never been found.
