Votive candles in the monastery of Tsouka, dedicated to the Nativity of the Theotokos. The monastery, located about 25km from Ioannina, Greece, is built on the edge of the steep cliffs of the canyon along river Arachthos, and hence gets its name from the local term for “round rock edge”. The monastery was founded in 1190 by Emperor Isaac II Angelos when according to tradition an icon of Virgin Mary was found in the rock. The katholikon in its current form was built probably in the late 17th century.
