Walking under Utrecht’s Dom Tower (domtoren), towards the main building of St. Martin's Cathedral (domkerk). The lifting hatch (hijsluik) found in every room of the domtoren can be seen at the top of the photo. The six-meter high statue of a torch-bearing woman by sculptor Corinne Franzen-Heslenfeld atop a four-meter high stone pedestal is the Verzetsmonument, in honor of the Dutch resistance during the Second World War. The monument is on the Cathedral Square, where the central nave of the cathedral was before it collapsed in a storm in 1674.
