USS San Marcos Cage Mast Test

Crew members of USS Idaho BB-24 admire the damage done to the test cage mast installed on USS San Marcos, ex USS Texas (1892) sometime during 1911. According to the back of the photo it took 18 hits to bring the mast down. This looks to be the same mast that was installed at a 10-degree angle to exaggerate conditions during stress testing on stern of the monitor USS Florida (BM-9), notice the odd angle at the base in this photo.

Photo taken by Heukel, from my personal collection.
