Demolition Depot Face 1
Kati found the Demolition Depot while visiting one of the library branches in Harlem a few days ago. She decided that the place was a perfect afternoon destination for my parents, so uptown we went. Turns out, as usual, she was right. Demolition Depot is a massive warehouse and yard filled with all the beautiful detritus of NYC. Old doors, toilets, and bicycles mix freely with massive facade pieces made from sheet lead and poured stone. Gargoyles rescued from demolished and condemned buildings sit there waiting to be bought and taken to a new perch. The place serves as a sort of concentrated practical survey of the history of New York architecture. The details of it. All of these faces here sit within 100 feet of each other in the back yard. Something tells me that many of them once had a much more lofty view. -Erich
