A perfect fit

I picked up the ZS40 in the hopes of finding a nice travel zoom with RAW and a long focal range that was still pocketable. Much as I like my XF1, I just don't use the wide-normal range much. The initial shots were underwhelming, and I decided I'd give it a few more days trying to learn the quirks before I gave it up.

Well, it redeemed itself on a walk today. The 720mm-equivalent reach and impressive stabilization is a potent combo, and while the sensor can get soft fast at higher sensitivities, ISO 400 seems perfectly usable and as I learn more I'm sure it will only get better (plus hoping for some firmware updates). Power zooms though-- noisy!

These silly little sparrows have gone to roost in two tiny holes in this brick wall. There are hordes of them, so I can only hope that there are other holes or so something somewhere!
