Kimono ATC Shrine project
This was a contest entry for Blockhead Rubber Stamps in Oct 2009. (In the ATC Category).
I enjoy creating ATC’s but since I think they need somewhere special to live, I also like to make them a special home. I could not resist creating this ATC combo using 2 single cardboard microscope slide mailers and a very cool background stamp that made the perfect doors to the shrine to go along with my patchwork
Kimono ATC.
I created a Kimono template the same size as an ATC on the computer and printed 3 of them out on white glossy paper.
I colored each kimono differently using the polished stone technique with sharpie pens, alcohol and a felt pad tool.
I then stamped various portions of each kimono using two of the small foliage stamps from Blockheads “Chinese Traditional Full Unmounted Stamp Sheet #1”. I then cut various sections of the panels to create one new multi-colored kimono. This Kimono is the ATC which is housed in its coordinating Shrine.
The ATC Shrine was created by gluing 2 single microscope slide cardboard mailers together side by side on top of another piece of cardboard so that there are 2 opening doors. All the cardboard elements were painted black and a piece of black cardstock was inserted inside to cover up the arched openings and form a base for the Kimono ATC. The doors inside and out were created by stamping the Asian flower silhouette stamp from Blockheads “Backgrounds and Borders Full Unmounted Sheet #1”, 4 times on to transparency film using black Staz On ink. I did more of the “polished stone” technique to highlight the stamped image backed each panel with cardstock and attached them to the microscope slide mailer to form the doors of the ATC Shrine. I also stamped the image one more time to use a small strip of it in the center of the Kimono ATC to pull all the elements together.
