Eggjarnar in the Faroe Islands - View towards Beinisvørð
This photo was taken in a place called Eggjarnar near the village Vágur in Suðuroy in the Faroe Islands. The population of Vágur is around 1400, the population of the island Suðuroy is around 5000. There used to be a Loran C station on this place, but it closed down in the seventies. The steep mountain furthest away on this photo is Beinisvørð, the second highest vertical cliff in the Faroes 469 m high.
The Faroes are quite isolated, they are situated between Scotland, Norway and Iceland. It takes two hours by plane from the Faroes to Denmark and it also takes two hours by ferry from Tórshavn (the capital in the Faroes) to go to Suðuroy, which is the southernmost of the Faroes Islands. The ferry Norrøna sails from the Faroes to Denmark and to Iceland. The trip to Esbjerg in Denmark takes around 34 hours.
