Beyond the Yellow Brick Road

Ok, there's a story behind this one. Much of the old brick around London is yellow because of the unique yellow clay found in Kent County. Instead of red, the bricks are yellow. This is supposedly one of the inspirations of the Elton John song "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road". (part of where the whole Oz yellow brick road came from, etc.) When visiting St Peters on the Wall in Bradwell-on-Sea, Essex (the county just northeast of Kent), the path to the nearly 2,000 year old church (oldest in England - see other photos in B&W London set for non-doctored versions) was lined with yellow clay rocks eroded smooth by the ocean (that's the North Sea in the distance). My friend Jamie was watching our house and dogs while we were in England. I asked him what we could bring him for a thank-you gift. Being a history buff, he said "just bring me a rock or something from some historical place, and take a picture of the place if you can." So I took the photo and brought him a yellow rock from the path. I was inspired by the story of the yellow brick, told by my good friend John Peters, so I created this B&W photo then used Photoshop tricks to colorize the "Yellow Brick Road" for artistic contrast and to illustrate the story. (Knowing John, this is probably a load of horse crap, eh? ha! No, just kidding...it's true...)
