how long does it take an engineer...
...to get to the seventh floor to open up the swimming pool at the Hotel W in Chicago? 15 minutes, as it turns out. It should have opened at 6.30 am; it took several phone calls to get it
open by 6.45.
which is a pity, because the hotel gave me a nice welcome gift of goggles and swim cap. Amazing; I'm not sure whether it was personal or just coincidence... (I was going to write and thank the concierge for the nice gift, and I still will, but I will also include a link to this post.)
But they blew it by screwing up on the morning I had to leave promptly to catch a flight. As it happens, I *really* wish I had caught an earlier flight. The one I was on got diverted to Stewart Airport, and I got back to New York four hours late, sans luggage, after a series of misadventures too painful to recount.)
