Station Departure Canary Wharf London
The Shot
This view was taken on the Docklands Light Railway as the train left Heron Quays Station in the Canary Wharf East London Financial District. The railway is automatic, no driver. This gives a great opportunity as there are passenger seats at the front and back of the train. I put the camera lens flat against the window to cut out reflections.
The picture was taken with a Sony A700 with a Sigma 10-20 wide angle zoom at 10mm. Taken handheld. 3 raw images 2EV spacing. Opened in Photoshop first and each image noise reduced with Noiseware Pro and saved as tiffs
Photomatix
Outputted in Photomatix to detail enhancer. Click the Camera name top right for Exif details and the settings used.
Photoshop
General adjustments in levels and curves to enhance. Layer masks used to exclude highlight areas
Vibrance layer increase 40 points
Brightness layer with mask used to substantially increase brightness in the top left which came out too dark
Saturation adjustment layer slight reduction in the reds to tone down the building on the right.
Duplicate background layer created with mask and Photoshop movement blur filter used to apply a feel of the moving train to the rails and bridge.
Noiseware Pro
Unsharp Mask a little sharpening low radius and higher amount.
Duplicate layer with mask to apply extra sharpening and contrast to to the buildings with low amount and high radius.
