Tuna (Prickly Pear Fruit)

The ripened fruit of the prickly pear, (Opuntia sp.), also known as a tuna, is valued as food in some Central American cultures. The fruit must generally be peeled before consumption to remove the thick skin and disarm it of its sharp spines, which can easily lodge in the skin. This tuna is about 4" / 10cm long.
