Cupid and Psyche

The young princess Psyche is both surprised and aroused by the first kiss of Cupid, who is invisible to her.

 

The painting from 1798 was created by François Gérard, a former pupil of Jacques-Louis David. It illustrates the neoclassicism's evolution towards sensuality and a certain formal abstraction.
