Another One Bites the Dust

Nowhere near as upsetting as the other 2015 NYC toy store causality and not as emotional as the loss of two other recent Times Square landmarks, Code Blue and Virgin Records.

But just like the FAO Schwarz flagship store with the "Big" piano, their newfound parent company lost a flagship store in 2015. On December 31 one of the turn of the century touchstones of Times Square Disneyfication, the Toys "R" Us with the Ferris Wheel inside, closed its doors forever.

New York starting 2016 off with one less Ferris Wheel doesn't even come close to the death of the many great Times Square movie theaters and record stores. Disney being the only Times Square plush toy pushers left is nothing compared with the New York style fast food joints being replaces by national chains.

Like LED's replacing neon, Toys "R" Us is just one more example of the Times Square dynamic.
