Globular springtail - Sminthurinus igniceps - Front View

This is the same individual as in the previous image, but head-on. Rather attractive speckled pigmentation pattern on the lower face.

 

This springtail was very difficult to see with my hand-lens as it was about the same size and colour as the fungal colonies (or whatever they are) on the underside of the leaf. At 0.4mm, it's one of the smallest individuals that I've photographed.

 

Canon 5D3 + MP-E 65mm (at x5) + 1.4x Extender + MT24-EX Flash. Cropped quite a bit.
