Consolation prize ...
After finding an unusually dark Katiannid springtail in our Staffordshire garden yesterday, I went out this morning (all excited) looking for more. Sadly; only one "typical" adult female to be seen. Perhaps it's because conditions are a bit less damp today.
By way of consolation, I headed to our garden pond to photograph the aquatic species Sminthurides aquaticus. There were a couple posing nicely on the edging stones. This is a composite of two images blended in PSE. Rather pleasingly, it shows clearly, a fluid droplet being excreted from the collophore. It's nicely reflected in the wet stone too. I'm pleased with that!
