Ed Hale & Patricia Abbot at meeting with Iranian Minister of Culture

This picture is at the climax of the story. Allow me to catch you up... Abbot: Sir we would like to know why can't females sing in public or record CDs in Iran? Minister of Culture: Well this is a tricky question. Essentially it is because in the Muslim religion we look up to our women. Like delicate flowers, with respect and reverence. We would not want their public displays to cause them any harm from men who are not quite right in the mind... Abbot: Well I think you all should make the men who are not quite right in the head fix their own problems and allow women to do whatever the hell they want!!!

Minister of Culture looks down... this is a woman SAYING this to him. But it is LAW. So... Ed Hale comments, Sir if I might, personally I like the way the women are here. From an outsider's perspective one can really feel the respect and reverence... It is sort of refreshing comapred to the US.

Dreyfuss looks at me as if i am the world's biggest pansy. But the truth is probably somewhere in bertween. Women deserve equality in Iran. That is for sure. But there is something to be said about their respectful nature there that we have lost in the West, especially the States.
