Chinese Delegation Sep 2016

by eccnswmedia

ECCNSW received in September the visit of a delegation of 25 people from the State Ethnic Affairs Commission of the People’s Republic of China. In their visit they met with ECC’s Chair, Deputy Chair, various Board members, as well as ECC staff.

The delegation was interested in the development and role of ECC, how to deal with the relationship between cultural diversity and national unity, as well as how to protect human rights and freedom of religious belief and social stability in the multicultural space.

There was a robust discussion held with the use of an interpreter and our Board member Suellyn Lin, who speaks fluent Mandarin and was able to convey the strengths and benefits of the ECCNSW as a peak body representing CALD communities.

This meeting presented an opportunity for ECC to exchange ideas and discuss the challenges as we both strive to achieve social cohesion and community harmony in our respected countries.
