Clean Up Day, Rockdale Bicentennial Park

St George Migrant Resource Centre and the Nepalese Grandparents Social Club conducted a clean-up program at Rockdale Bicentennial Park at West Botany Street on Saturday 29 May. Around 40 Nepalese grandparents from Rockdale, Kogarah and Hurstville undertook a two hours cleaning up session. The clean-up program was conducted around the park, the lake near the Bicentennial Park and its surrounding areas. Participants collected six full sacks of rubbish for disposal.

The park is a community favourite place for morning and afternoon recreational activities such as yoga and various sports. This event was organised with the help of the Ethnic Communities Council of NSW and the Cooks River Water Wise Project, which provided an opportunity for Nepalese people to increase their awareness and commitment for looking after the local parks and the neighbouring Cooks River.

Previously to this day, a general information session was given to Nepalese community members about the Cooks River. Clean up Australia provided sanitation material and Rockdale council managed the dispose of the collected wastage.
