The Sorcerer's Crossing

A female perspective on the same teachings Carlos Castaneda received. I attempted to read Carlos Castaneda, but I couldn't believe how dumb he was about everything so I couldn't get past the first few chapters. I got tired of him having to prove everything to himself. This account is more interesting because there was no drug use involved and much more attention is paid to the process of recapitulation, which is apparently how a shaman gathers energy and detaches from the past. The end point being to increase one's ability to intend or make things happen, as well as to perceive things beyond the usual barriers.

All this recapitualization seems like it would be very time consuming and difficult. It is also probably why it isn't a practice that is much taken up. But I can see how it would allow a new perspective to form.

The revelation for women in the shamanic world is that the womb is a source of energy and guidance. Men feed off the energy from women they have had sex with. They leave a feeding tube inside the woman's uterus that they use to suck up her energy so, as she grows stronger, he does too. This lasts for seven years, thus the seven year itch when all the lines leading into the womb start jumping up and down causing the woman to seek out intercourse and regenerate the feeding tubes for all the men sucking from her. I had a lover tell me that men got their energy from sex with women, but it was just a feeling she observed. (Women she said, got their power in the company of women especially at the beauty parlor. She may not have been so far off.)

The recapitualization of every sexual act is quite important for women on the path as is celibacy. No mention of the power of lesbians or what happens on an energetic level in the sexual act between women.

There is quite a bit of description about how to do various exercises, breathing techniques and what seemed to be facial massage techniques. In fact looking youthful is one of the benefits of this spiritual path; that alone would make it very popular you would think . Seems like someone would have used this material to make an illustrated how-to-book by now.

The sorcerer's crossing is the ability to connect with one's Double. It was not clear what this was; in the end I wondered if it was the energy field around the body. What was made clear was that the dualistic nature of existence was not between the mind and body, but between the physical body mind and the double.

I enjoyed the story of the author's journey. It had a mysterious quality to it especially since it says in wickipedia that she disappeared after Castaneda's death. Her tale is quite vivid and her teachers are compelling characters. It's sort of a Harry Potter for adults. Considered to be an advanced description of the path of shamanism, so I'm getting ahead of myself.
