Reflecting on a name....
For the Smile on Saturday challenge: "what's in a name?"
My given name is Elizabeth ... but being dyslexic I often wished my brother had had his way, and I'd been christened Ann! My father wanted Elisabeth spelt with an 's' rather than the traditional 'z' ... so my name caused some family disagreement before I was more than a few days old! ;o) As a child I knew I was in trouble if I was called to as "Elizabeth Ann" (my full name) ... it was a call I rather dreaded!!
I've found it a difficult name to live with, as almost everyone tries to shorten it - and mostly I hate the shortened versions. Liz, Liza or Lizzie, Eliza, Libby or Beth ... there are so many! I finally tried to insist on Elisa (spelt with the S but pronounced Eliza). So here I have made up a selection of the various versions of my name.
But now I discover there are so many more variations I could choose from! I am spoilt for choice if I want a new name ;o)
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elizabeth_(given_name)#Diminutives
Meaning: Elizabeth is a feminine given name derived from a form of the Hebrew name Elisheva (אֱלִישֶׁבַע), meaning "My God is an oath" or "My God is abundance", as rendered in the Septuagint. [Wiki]
HSoS ;o)
